About the Artist + Author
Jaleh Etemad is a multi-media collage artist who layers paint, photography, and found objects to create works infused with memory, healing, hope, and cultural exploration. A longtime member and former president of the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media, she describes her process as a way of finding peace and calmness in the midst of life’s chaos: “As I layer, my feelings, my senses, my memories become embedded on the surface of the canvas, and then I can see what is beyond the surface.”
Originally from the Azerbaijan region of Iran, Jaleh studied in London and began her career in medical sciences before rediscovering her childhood passion for art after moving to the U.S. Since then, she has exhibited nationally and internationally, with shows in Paris, Stockholm, Oslo, Rome, Venice, and Beijing. Her award-winning work has been published in several art books, and she has served her Tiburon, CA community as Artist Laureate (2012–2016), Vice Chair and former Chair of the Heritage & Arts Commission, and creator and co-editor of I Remember When...: Stories of the Tiburon Peninsula.
